Dear Friends, Could you consider spending about an hour and a half at St. Vincent Cemetery to help with hosting a group on Wednesday, March 8 between 2:30 and 4:00 pm? We could use extra people to briefly talk about why they want to preserve St. Vincent Cemetery and their ancesters’ graves.
Professor Gabrielle Dean, PhD and Nancy Sheads, retiree from Maryland State Archives, and Jesse Bennett are teaching a class at Johns Hopkins University on cemeteries, such as Laurel and Mt. Auburn, and what it means for a cemetery to be cut off from its community of descendants.
Dr. Dean will bring a group of students to St. Vincent Cemetery for a talk on the history of the Cemetery and a tour on Wednesday, March 8 between 2:30 and 4:00 pm.
In addition to students from Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Dean, Jesse Bennett, and Nancy Sheads will be accompanied by students from Morgan State University and Coppins State University.
Professor Elgin Klug, PhD will accompany his students from Coppins State University. Dr. Klug is very involved with the preservation project at Laurel Cemetery located across Belair Road from St. Vincent Cemetery. Many of you will recall that Laurel Cemetery was also destroyed, and a shopping center was built on top of graves.
Please consider helping to host this event for St. Vincent Cemetery. Contact me if you can help. Stephanie
